From Scots/English rabble (“disorderly crowd”), ultimately from Middle French rabble, with the collective suffix -ment; first recorded in the 16th–17th centuries.
यह शब्द ‘rabble’ (अव्यवस्थित/उपद्रवी भीड़) से बना है, जिसकी जड़ें मध्य-फ़्रांसीसी ‘rabble’ में मिलती हैं; इसमें सामूहिक अर्थ देने वाला प्रत्यय ‘-ment’ जुड़ा है। इसका प्रयोग 16वीं–17वीं शताब्दी के आसपास दर्ज मिलता है।
