From English punt (boat), from Middle Low German punte/Old French pon(t)e (“pontoon, flat-bottomed boat”); the sporting sense “punt (kick)” developed later in English, and figurative senses (“defer/avoid”) arose by metaphor.
अंग्रेज़ी punt (नाव) शब्द से, जो मध्य निम्न जर्मन punte/पुरानी फ़्रांसीसी pon(t)e (“पोंटून/सपाट-तली नाव”) से जुड़ा माना जाता है; खेल वाला अर्थ “पन्ट (किक)” बाद में अंग्रेज़ी में विकसित हुआ और “टालना/बचना” जैसे रूपक अर्थ उसी से बने।

“Punts” is used as (1) the plural noun meaning flat-bottomed boats moved with a pole, and (2) the verb form (he/she/it punts) meaning to push a punt with a pole, make a punt kick in sport, or more generally to postpone a decision/answer or to take a gamble.
“Punts” (1) बहुवचन संज्ञा के रूप में डंडे से चलाई जाने वाली सपाट-तली वाली उथली नावों (पन्ट) के लिए, और (2) क्रिया के रूप में (वह punts) नाव को डंडे से आगे बढ़ाने, खेल में पन्ट किक करने, या सामान्यतः किसी निर्णय/उत्तर को टालने-गोलमोल करने तथा जोखिम लेकर दांव लगाने के अर्थ में प्रयुक्त होता है।
