Postdating

/ˌpəʊstˈdeɪtɪŋ/

Origin & History

From post- (“after”) + date; postdate is recorded from the early 17th century in the sense “to date after a given time,” later also “to put a later date on a document.”

Definition

Postdating means (1) writing a later date on a document (especially a cheque) than the day it is actually written, so it becomes payable/valid on that later date; and (2) happening, being created, or being scheduled after a specified time.
