From polygamy + -ist; polygamy comes from Greek poly- ‘many’ + gamos ‘marriage’.
‘polygamy’ (बहुविवाह) + ‘-ist’ (किसी प्रथा/मत का अनुयायी) से बना; ‘polygamy’ ग्रीक poly- ‘बहुत/अनेक’ + gamos ‘विवाह’ से आया है।
Definition
A polygamist is someone who is married to, or maintains legally/ socially recognized marital relationships with, more than one spouse at the same time (e.g., one husband with multiple wives or one wife with multiple husbands, depending on the system).
बहुविवाही वह व्यक्ति होता है जो एक ही समय में एक से अधिक जीवनसाथियों से विवाहित होता है या सामाजिक/कानूनी रूप से मान्य वैवाहिक संबंध रखता है (जैसे एक पति की कई पत्नियाँ या कुछ प्रणालियों में एक पत्नी के कई पति)।
