From Greek phōnḗ (“sound, voice”) + -etics, via French/Modern Latin formations used in linguistics.
ग्रीक phōnḗ (अर्थ: “ध्वनि/आवाज़”) + प्रत्यय -etics से बना शब्द; भाषाविज्ञान में प्रयुक्त फ्रेंच/आधुनिक लैटिन-आधारित रूपों के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Phonetics is the branch of linguistics that examines the physical aspects of human speech sounds (phones), including how they are articulated by the speech organs, how they travel as sound waves, and how they are perceived by the ear and brain, often using symbols like the IPA.
फोनेटिक्स/ध्वनिविज्ञान भाषाविज्ञान की वह शाखा है जो मानव वाणी की भौतिक ध्वनियों (फ़ोन्स) का अध्ययन करती है—ध्वनियाँ कैसे उच्चारित होती हैं, ध्वनि-तरंगों के रूप में कैसे फैलती हैं, कान और मस्तिष्क उन्हें कैसे ग्रहण करते हैं, और IPA जैसे प्रतीकों द्वारा उनका लिप्यंतरण/प्रतिनिधित्व कैसे किया जाता है।
