From French pédanterie, from pédant (“pedant”), ultimately related to Italian pedante; recorded in English from the late 16th–early 17th century.
यह शब्द फ़्रेंच pédanterie से आया है, जो pédant (“पेडेंट/अति-नियमप्रिय विद्वान”) से बना है; इसकी जड़ें आगे इतालवी pedante से जुड़ी मानी जाती हैं। अंग्रेज़ी में इसका प्रयोग लगभग 16वीं शताब्दी के अंत–17वीं शताब्दी की शुरुआत से मिलता है।
Definition
Pedantry is the habit of showing off learning by focusing too much on small points of correctness (rules, definitions, technicalities), often missing the larger meaning or practical purpose.
पैडैन्ट्री (पांडित्य-प्रदर्शन/सूक्ष्मतावाद) वह आदत है जिसमें कोई व्यक्ति अपने ज्ञान का प्रदर्शन करने के लिए सहीपन के छोटे-छोटे मुद्दों (नियम, परिभाषाएँ, तकनीकी बातें) पर जरूरत से ज़्यादा जोर देता है और अक्सर बड़े अर्थ या व्यावहारिक उद्देश्य को नज़रअंदाज़ कर देता है।
