From Hebrew Pesach ‘a passing over’, via Old French pasche and Late Latin pascha; connected to the biblical narrative of God “passing over” Israelite homes in Egypt.
यह शब्द हिब्रू ‘पेसेह/पेसाख’ (Pesach) से आया है जिसका अर्थ ‘उलांघना/छोड़कर गुजरना’ है; यह पुरानी फ़्रेंच pasche और लेट लैटिन pascha के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में पहुँचा। इसका संबंध मिस्र में अंतिम विपत्ति के समय इस्राएलियों के घरों को “पास कर जाने” वाली बाइबिल कथा से है।
Definition
Passover is an important Jewish holy day that remembers the biblical Exodus, when God “passed over” the houses of the Israelites during the final plague in Egypt; it is observed with the Seder meal, retelling of the Exodus, and avoiding leavened foods (eating matzah).
पासओवर (फसह) यहूदी धर्म का एक प्रमुख पर्व है जो बाइबिल के ‘निर्गमन’ (Exodus) की स्मृति में मनाया जाता है; मान्यता है कि मिस्र की अंतिम विपत्ति के समय ईश्वर ने इस्राएलियों के घरों को “उलांघकर/छोड़कर” (passed over) दंड से बचाया। इसे सेडर भोज, निर्गमन कथा के पाठ, और खमीरयुक्त भोजन से परहेज़ करके (मात्ज़ा/अखमीरी रोटी खाकर) मनाया जाता है।
