From Latin oscillare “to swing,” from oscillum “little swing” (diminutive of os “mouth/face,” used of a small mask hung up and swung).

Definition
To oscillate means to move repeatedly from side to side (like a pendulum) or to keep changing between two positions, levels, or opinions. “Oscillated” is the past tense/past participle form.
