ग्रीक ‘ओरोस’ (पर्वत) + ‘-ग्राफी’ (लेखन/वर्णन) से बना शब्द; 19वीं शताब्दी के आधुनिक वैज्ञानिक/भौगोलिक शब्द-प्रयोग के माध्यम से प्रचलित।
Definition
Orography is the description and study of the physical features of a region’s terrain—especially mountains, ridges, and their arrangement—and is often used in geography and meteorology because mountains influence climate and rainfall patterns.
ओरोग्राफी (पर्वत-विवरण/पर्वत-भूगोल) किसी क्षेत्र की स्थलाकृति के भौतिक रूपों—विशेषकर पर्वत, कटक/रीढ़ (ridges) और उनकी व्यवस्था—का वर्णन व अध्ययन है; भूगोल और मौसम-विज्ञान में इसका उपयोग इसलिए भी होता है क्योंकि पर्वत जलवायु और वर्षा-प्रणालियों को प्रभावित करते हैं।
