Coined in the 1930s as the trade name for the first commercially successful synthetic fiber developed by DuPont; later used generically for polyamide fibers and plastics.

Nylon is a man-made (synthetic) polyamide material widely used for making fabric, ropes, nets, stockings, and also molded plastic parts because it is strong, abrasion-resistant, and relatively elastic.
नायलॉन एक मानव-निर्मित (कृत्रिम) पॉलीअमाइड पदार्थ है, जिसका उपयोग कपड़ा, रस्सियाँ, जाल, स्टॉकिंग्स तथा ढाले हुए प्लास्टिक पुर्ज़े बनाने में व्यापक रूप से होता है, क्योंकि यह मज़बूत, घर्षण-रोधी और तुलनात्मक रूप से लचीला होता है।
