From neo- (“new”) + type, used in taxonomy for a newly designated name-bearing specimen when the original type is lacking.
neo- (‘नया’) + type (‘प्रकार/टाइप’) से; वर्गीकरण-शास्त्र में तब प्रयुक्त जब मूल प्रकार-नमूना अनुपलब्ध होने पर नाम-धारक नया नमूना निर्धारित किया जाता है।
Definition
In biological taxonomy, a neotype is a new type specimen chosen to permanently anchor a scientific name when the original type material is lost or inadequate; it helps stabilize the use of the name.
जैविक वर्गीकरण में ‘नियोटाइप’ वह नया प्रकार-नमूना (type specimen) है जिसे किसी प्रजाति/टैक्सन के वैज्ञानिक नाम को स्थिर रखने के लिए चुना जाता है जब मूल प्रकार-नमूना (जैसे होलोटाइप) खो गया हो, नष्ट हो गया हो, या कभी निर्धारित ही न किया गया हो।
