From French momification, ultimately from Arabic mūmiyāʾ (“mummy; embalming substance, bitumen”), via Medieval Latin/Latinized forms; + -fication (“making”).
फ़्रेंच momification से; अंततः अरबी mūmiyāʾ (अर्थ: ‘ममी/संरक्षण में प्रयुक्त पदार्थ, बिटुमेन’) से, मध्यकालीन लैटिन रूपों के माध्यम से; तथा -fication (‘बनाने/निर्माण की क्रिया’) प्रत्यय के साथ।
Definition
Mummification is the process of preserving a corpse by removing moisture (and sometimes internal organs) and treating the body with substances such as salts or resins, so that it resists decay and can be kept for a long time.
ममीकरण वह प्रक्रिया है जिसमें मृत शरीर से नमी हटाकर (और कभी-कभी आंतरिक अंग निकालकर) तथा नमक/रेज़िन जैसे पदार्थों से उपचार करके उसे सड़ने-गलने से बचाया जाता है, ताकि उसे लंबे समय तक सुरक्षित रखा जा सके।
