From the verb moralize + the agentive suffix -er; moralize comes from French moraliser and ultimately from Latin moralis (“moral”).

A moralizer is someone who frequently comments on what is right and wrong, often by lecturing others or turning situations into moral lessons, sometimes in an irritatingly preachy manner.
