From mono- (“single”) + tonic (“tone, accent”), influenced by Greek orthographic terminology and later mathematical usage.

Definition
Monotonic describes something that does not vary much—especially a voice or sound that stays at one pitch; in mathematics it describes a function that is always non-decreasing or always non-increasing; in Greek writing it refers to the monotonic diacritic system adopted in 1982.
Monotonic किसी ऐसी चीज़ का वर्णन करता है जिसमें बहुत बदलाव न हो—विशेषकर ऐसी आवाज़/ध्वनि जो एक ही सुर/पिच पर बनी रहे; गणित में यह ऐसे फलन के लिए आता है जो या तो कभी घटता नहीं (non-decreasing) या कभी बढ़ता नहीं (non-increasing); ग्रीक लेखन में यह 1982 में अपनाई गई मोनोटोनिक मात्रा-चिह्न (diacritics) प्रणाली को दर्शाता है।
