From Middle English mol(t)en ‘to shed feathers’, from Old English -molt (in compounds), related to German mausern ‘to molt’.
यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी mol(t)en (‘पंख झाड़ना/बदलना’) से आया है; इसका संबंध पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी के -molt (संयुक्त शब्दों में) से है और जर्मन mausern (‘पंख बदलना/झड़ना’) से भी संबंधित माना जाता है।
Definition
Molt means (1) to shed old feathers, fur, or skin and replace them with new growth, as birds and many animals do; (2) the period or process of this shedding; and sometimes (3) the shed covering itself.
