From May + apple, named for its apple-like fruit that appears around May in parts of its range; the plant name is recorded in English from the 18th–19th centuries.
May (मई) + apple (सेब) से बना नाम; इसके सेब जैसे फल कई क्षेत्रों में मई के आसपास दिखाई देने के कारण ऐसा कहा गया। यह पौध-नाम अंग्रेज़ी में लगभग 18वीं–19वीं शताब्दी से दर्ज मिलता है।
Definition
Mayapple is a perennial woodland herb native to eastern North America, notable for its large, umbrella-shaped leaves and a solitary white flower that later becomes a yellow, egg-shaped fruit; most parts are toxic, but the fully ripe fruit is sometimes eaten and the plant has a history of medicinal use (podophyllin).
मे-एप्पल (Podophyllum peltatum) पूर्वी उत्तरी अमेरिका का एक बहुवर्षीय वनस्पति है, जिसकी बड़ी छत्र जैसी पत्तियाँ और एक अकेला सफेद फूल होता है जो बाद में पीले, अंडाकार/सेब जैसे फल में बदलता है; पौधे के अधिकांश भाग विषैले होते हैं, पर पूरी तरह पका फल कभी-कभी खाया जाता है और इसकी जड़/राइज़ोम का औषधीय उपयोग (पोडोफिलिन) रहा है।
