Definition
A magistrate is an official (often a judge in a lower court) who deals with minor criminal cases, preliminary hearings, and some civil matters, depending on the legal system; historically the term also referred to senior public officials in ancient Rome/Greece and later institutions.
मजिस्ट्रेट वह अधिकारी (अक्सर निचली अदालत का न्यायिक अधिकारी) होता है जो छोटे अपराधों, प्रारम्भिक सुनवाइयों और कुछ दीवानी मामलों की सुनवाई/निपटारा करता है; ऐतिहासिक रूप से यह शब्द प्राचीन रोम/यूनान तथा बाद की संस्थाओं में उच्च प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता था।
