फ़्रेंच शब्द louvre से; पहले इसका अर्थ छत का रोशनदान/वेंटिलेटर था, बाद में यह उन तिरछे पट्टों वाली संरचनाओं के लिए प्रयुक्त होने लगा जो हवा और रोशनी आने देती हैं तथा बारिश को रोकती हैं।

लूवर (Louver) ढाँचे में लगे स्थिर या समायोज्य तिरछे पट्टे/ब्लेड होते हैं, जिनका उपयोग खिड़की, दरवाज़े, शटर या वेंटिलेशन के छेद में हवा, रोशनी और दृश्यता को नियंत्रित करने तथा अक्सर बारिश को रोकने के लिए किया जाता है।
