Origin & History
The name Kerala is traditionally linked to Sanskrit/Dravidian roots, often explained as Kera (coconut tree) + alam (land/region), i.e., “land of coconuts”; it is also associated with the ancient Chera dynasty (Cera/Kera).
‘केरल’ नाम को प्रायः संस्कृत/द्रविड़ मूल से जोड़ा जाता है; इसे कई बार Kera (नारियल का पेड़) + alam (भूमि/क्षेत्र) के रूप में समझाया जाता है, यानी “नारियलों की भूमि”; इसे प्राचीन चेर (Chera) वंश (Cera/Kera) से भी संबद्ध माना जाता है।
