Origin & History
From Anglo-Indian English kedgeree, derived from Hindi/Urdu khichṛī (“khichdi”), later used in Britain for a rice dish with smoked fish and eggs.
यह शब्द एंग्लो-इंडियन अंग्रेज़ी ‘kedgeree’ से आया है, जो हिंदी/उर्दू ‘खिचड़ी/खिचड़ी (khichṛī)’ से व्युत्पन्न है; बाद में ब्रिटेन में इसे चावल, स्मोक्ड मछली और अंडों वाले व्यंजन के लिए भी प्रयोग किया जाने लगा।
Definition
Kedgerees are dishes based on rice mixed with other ingredients; the term can refer to khichdi (an Indian rice-and-lentil dish) and also to a European/British-style preparation with smoked haddock and eggs.
केजरीज़ (kedgerees) चावल-आधारित मिश्रित व्यंजन हैं; यह शब्द खिचड़ी (भारतीय चावल-दाल का व्यंजन) के लिए भी आता है और यूरोपीय/ब्रिटिश शैली के उस व्यंजन के लिए भी जिसमें चावल के साथ स्मोक्ड हैडॉक (मछली) और अंडे मिलाए जाते हैं।
