From New Latin Jatropha, coined from Greek iatros ‘physician’ + trophē ‘nourishment’, referring to supposed medicinal uses of some species.

Definition
Jatropha is a genus of tropical shrubs and small trees (family Euphorbiaceae). Several species, especially Jatropha curcas, produce oil-rich seeds that can be processed into biodiesel, but many parts of the plant are toxic if eaten. It is also planted as a live fence and studied for drought tolerance.
जेट्रोफ़ा उष्णकटिबंधीय झाड़ियों और छोटे वृक्षों का एक वंश (परिवार: यूफ़ोर्बिएसी) है। कुछ प्रजातियाँ, विशेषकर Jatropha curcas, तेल-समृद्ध बीज देती हैं जिनसे बायोडीज़ल बनाया जा सकता है, लेकिन पौधे के कई भाग खाने पर विषैले होते हैं। इसे जीवित बाड़ (लाइव फेंस) के रूप में भी लगाया जाता है और सूखा-सहनशीलता के लिए अध्ययन किया जाता है।
