From high + hand, originally meaning using a 'high hand' (strong, controlling power); recorded from the 17th century, later developing the sense of arrogant or domineering behavior.
high + hand से बना; मूल अर्थ 'ऊँचे हाथ' यानी कड़े नियंत्रण/सत्ता का प्रयोग था। इसका प्रयोग 17वीं शताब्दी से मिलता है और बाद में इसका अर्थ घमंडी या दबंग व्यवहार के रूप में विकसित हुआ।
