From Latin hemisphaerium, from Greek hēmisphairion ‘half-sphere’, from hēmi- ‘half’ + sphaira ‘sphere, ball’.
लैटिन hemisphaerium से, जो यूनानी hēmisphairion (‘अर्ध-गोल’) से आया है; hēmi- (‘आधा’) + sphaira (‘गोलक/गेंद’)।
Definition
A hemisphere is half of a spherical object. In geography, the Earth is divided into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres by the equator, and into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres by a meridian (commonly the Prime Meridian). In anatomy, it can also mean one of the two halves of the brain (left or right cerebral hemisphere).
हेमिस्फियर (गोलार्ध) किसी गोलाकार वस्तु का आधा भाग होता है। भूगोल में भूमध्य रेखा पृथ्वी को उत्तरी और दक्षिणी गोलार्ध में बाँटती है, और किसी मध्याह्न रेखा (अक्सर प्रधान मध्याह्न/प्राइम मेरिडियन) के आधार पर पूर्वी और पश्चिमी गोलार्ध माने जाते हैं। शरीर-विज्ञान में यह मस्तिष्क के दो भागों (बाएँ या दाएँ सेरेब्रल हेमिस्फियर) में से एक को भी दर्शाता है।
