लैटिन helix से, जो प्राचीन यूनानी ἕλιξ (हेलिक्स) से आया है, जिसका अर्थ है ‘मुड़ी/कुंडलित वस्तु, सर्पिल’।
Definition
A helix is a 3D curve that winds around a cylinder or cone at a constant angle, like the thread of a screw or a spiral staircase; in anatomy it can mean the curved outer rim of the ear, and in architecture it can mean a small spiral (volute) detail on a Corinthian capital.
हेलिक्स एक त्रि-आयामी वक्र है जो सिलेंडर या शंकु के चारों ओर स्थिर कोण पर घूमता/लिपटता है, जैसे पेच का धागा या घुमावदार सीढ़ियाँ; शरीर-विज्ञान में यह कान के बाहरी मुड़े हुए किनारे के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है, और वास्तुकला में यह कोरिंथियन स्तंभशीर्ष के छोटे कुंडलाकार (वोल्यूट) अलंकरण को भी दर्शा सकता है।
