पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी hangian (“लटकना/टाँगना”) से; यह पुरानी नॉर्स hanga और जर्मन hängen से संबंधित है। बाद में रूपों में भेद बना: सामान्य अर्थ में hung, और फाँसी (execution) के लिए प्रायः hanged।
Definition
“Hang” means to suspend or attach something so it dangles (hang a picture), to be suspended/hover in one place (smoke hangs), to execute someone by hanging (be hanged), to spend time idly (hang around), and in computing to stop responding (the system hangs).
“Hang” का अर्थ है किसी चीज़ को ऊपर से टाँगकर लटकाना (चित्र टाँगना), खुद लटकना/एक जगह ठहर जाना (धुआँ कमरे में छाया रहा), किसी को फाँसी देकर मारना (फाँसी पर लटकना), यूँ ही समय बिताना/आस‑पास मंडराना (इधर‑उधर घूमना), और कंप्यूटिंग में सिस्टम/प्रोग्राम का प्रतिक्रिया देना बंद कर देना (अटक जाना)।
