Probably a variant spelling of gyp, recorded in American English from the late 19th–early 20th century; gyp has been linked to the ethnonym Gypsy (Roma), though this origin is disputed and the term is widely considered offensive in that connection.
संभवतः gyp का ही एक रूपांतर/वर्तनी-रूप, जिसका प्रयोग अमेरिकी अंग्रेज़ी में उन्नीसवीं सदी के अंत–बीसवीं सदी की शुरुआत से मिलता है; gyp को कभी-कभी Gypsy (Roma) जातिनाम से जोड़ा गया है, पर यह व्युत्पत्ति विवादित है और इस संदर्भ में शब्द को व्यापक रूप से आपत्तिजनक माना जाता है।
Definition
To gype means to cheat someone, especially by overcharging or shortchanging; it can also refer (informally) to the act of swindling or to a swindler, and in some usages it has meant to inform on or accuse someone.
gype का अर्थ किसी को धोखा देना है—खासतौर पर ज़्यादा पैसे लेना या कम देकर ठगना; यह (अनौपचारिक रूप से) ठगी की क्रिया या ठग व्यक्ति के लिए भी आ सकता है, और कुछ प्रयोगों में इसका अर्थ किसी के खिलाफ चुगली/सूचना देना या आरोप लगाना भी रहा है।
