From French grenade, originally meaning 'pomegranate', from Latin granatum ('seeded'); later applied to the explosive device due to similarity in shape.

Definition
A grenade is a compact explosive device (usually hand-thrown or fired from a launcher) that explodes after a fuse or impact, used in combat; in older usage, the word also refers to a pomegranate because of its shape and many seeds.
ग्रेनेड एक छोटा विस्फोटक हथियार है जिसे हाथ से फेंका जाता है या ग्रेनेड-लॉन्चर से दागा जाता है; यह फ्यूज़/समय या टक्कर के बाद फटता है और युद्ध में उपयोग होता है। पुराने/दुर्लभ अर्थ में यह अनार के लिए भी कहा जाता है, क्योंकि इसके आकार और दानों की समानता होती है।
