From Latin fascia meaning “band, strip,” via Italian fascia, later used in anatomy for “a band-like sheet of tissue” and in architecture for “a facing band/board.”

Definition
In anatomy, fascia is a tough, fibrous layer of connective tissue that wraps around muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, helping support and separate structures; in architecture, it can mean a flat facing board or band (e.g., along the edge of a roof or as a shopfront).
