From Latin fasces, plural of fascis meaning “bundle (of rods)”; in Roman use it referred to the lictors’ ceremonial bundle symbolizing authority.
लैटिन fasces (fascis का बहुवचन) से, जिसका अर्थ “छड़ों का गट्ठर/गुच्छा” है; रोमन परंपरा में यह लिक्टरों द्वारा ले जाया जाने वाला औपचारिक गट्ठर था जो अधिकार/सत्ता का प्रतीक था।
Definition
Fasces are a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes enclosing an axe, carried by Roman lictors as an emblem of a magistrate’s power to punish; in modern times the fasces has also been adopted as a political symbol, most notably by Italian Fascism.
फासिस लकड़ी की छड़ों का बंधा हुआ गुच्छा होता है, जिसमें कभी-कभी कुल्हाड़ी भी लगी होती है; प्राचीन रोम में इसे ‘लिक्टर’ नामक अंगरक्षकों द्वारा दंड देने की सत्ता के प्रतीक के रूप में ले जाया जाता था; आधुनिक काल में यह प्रतीक राजनीतिक रूप से भी अपनाया गया, विशेषकर इतालवी फासीवाद द्वारा।
