Origin & History
From the plural of entasis, via Latin from Greek entasis meaning 'a stretching, tension'; in architecture it came to mean the slight swelling of a column.
'Entases' शब्द 'entasis' का बहुवचन है; यह लैटिन के माध्यम से यूनानी 'entasis' (अर्थ: खिंचाव/तनाव) से आया। वास्तुकला में इसका अर्थ स्तंभ की हल्की उभरी हुई वक्रता (स्वेलिंग) हो गया।
Definition
In classical architecture, entases are subtle outward curves in the shafts of columns, added to make the column look visually straight and pleasing rather than appearing to bow inward.
शास्त्रीय वास्तुकला में, 'एंटेसिस' स्तंभ (कॉलम) के डंडे/शाफ्ट में दी गई हल्की बाहर की ओर वक्रता होती है, ताकि स्तंभ देखने में सीधा और सुंदर लगे और अंदर की ओर धँसाव (अवतलता) का भ्रम न हो।
