यह शब्द यूनानी ‘entasis’ से आया है, जिसका अर्थ ‘तनाव/खींचाव’ है; वास्तुकला में इसका प्रयोग स्तंभ के ‘तनाव’ या हल्के उभार (स्वेल) के अर्थ में होता है।
Definition
In classical architecture, entasis is the subtle outward bulge (convex curve) in a column’s shaft, used to make the column look straighter and more visually pleasing.
शास्त्रीय वास्तुकला में ‘एंटेसिस’ स्तंभ (कॉलम) के शाफ्ट में हल्का-सा बाहर की ओर उभार (उत्तल वक्रता) होता है, जो स्तंभ को देखने में अधिक सीधा और सौंदर्यपूर्ण दिखाने तथा अवतलता के भ्रम की भरपाई के लिए किया जाता है।
