From Middle English *dwarf*, from Old English *dweorg*, related to Old Norse *dvergr*; the verb sense “make seem small” developed later from the noun.

Definition
“Dwarfs” can be (1) the plural noun meaning very small people (including the folklore beings called dwarfs), unusually small animals/plants/things, or small stars; and (2) the verb form meaning “makes something look small or insignificant” (e.g., a tall building dwarfs the others).
“Dwarfs” (1) संज्ञा का बहुवचन है: बौने/अत्यंत छोटे कद के लोग (लोककथाओं के बौने भी), सामान्य से बहुत छोटे जानवर/पौधे/वस्तुएँ, या अपेक्षाकृत छोटे आकार के तारे; और (2) क्रिया का रूप है जिसका अर्थ है “किसी चीज़ को बहुत छोटा या महत्वहीन दिखाना” (जैसे कोई ऊँची इमारत बाकी को बौना कर देती है)।
