Definition
A depside is an organic compound (common in lichens) made from two or more aromatic units—usually derived from orsellinic-acid-type building blocks—joined mainly by ester bonds (and often also ether/aryl-aryl linkages); many depsides are classified as lichen secondary metabolites with biological activities.
