From Middle English cuckolde, from Old French cucuault/cucuault (related to cucu ‘cuckoo’), based on the cuckoo bird’s association with laying eggs in other birds’ nests; later applied figuratively to a husband whose wife is unfaithful.
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी cuckolde से, जो पुराने फ़्रेंच cucuault/cucuault (cucu ‘कुक्कू/कोयल’ से संबंधित) से आया; कोयल के अन्य पक्षियों के घोंसलों में अंडे देने की धारणा के आधार पर, बाद में रूपक रूप में उस पति के लिए प्रयुक्त होने लगा जिसकी पत्नी बेवफ़ा हो।
