From Late Latin crucibulum ‘earthen pot for melting metals’; related to Latin crux ‘cross’ (by association with cross-shaped marks on some vessels).
यह शब्द लेटिन (Late Latin) crucibulum से आया है, जिसका अर्थ ‘धातु पिघलाने का मिट्टी का पात्र’ था; इसका संबंध लैटिन crux (‘क्रॉस/क्रूस’) से भी माना जाता है (कुछ पात्रों पर क्रॉस-आकार के चिह्नों से जुड़ी व्युत्पत्ति-परंपरा के कारण)।
Definition
A crucible is (1) a ceramic or metal vessel that can withstand extremely high temperatures, used in laboratories or metalworking to melt, purify, or alloy materials; and (2) a situation of extreme pressure or difficulty in which people, ideas, or institutions are tested and transformed.
