मध्य अंग्रेज़ी cotoun से, जो पुरानी फ़्रेंच coton से आया; इसका स्रोत अरबी quṭn (कपास) माना जाता है।
Definition
Cotton is a soft, fluffy natural fiber that grows around the seeds of the cotton plant (Gossypium) and is spun into thread to make cloth and clothing; it can also mean the plant itself, and as a verb it can mean to pad/protect with cotton or make something cotton-like.
कॉटन (रुई/कपास) एक नरम प्राकृतिक रेशा है जो कपास के पौधे (Gossypium) के बीजों के चारों ओर उगता है और इससे धागा बनाकर कपड़ा व वस्त्र तैयार किए जाते हैं; यह शब्द पौधे के लिए भी आता है, और क्रिया के रूप में किसी चीज़ को रुई से भरने/सुरक्षित करने या रुई जैसा बनाने के अर्थ में भी प्रयोग होता है।
