यह शब्द मध्य अंग्रेज़ी से आया माना जाता है और सम्भवतः पुरानी फ़्रांसीसी/एंग्लो-फ़्रांसीसी रूपों से जुड़ा है जिनका अर्थ झाड़ीदार छोटा जंगल/झुरमुट था; अर्थ के स्तर पर यह छोटे वन-खंड/झुरमुट (coppice से तुलनीय) की धारणा से संबद्ध है।
Definition
A copse is a small patch of closely growing trees or shrubs, often forming a dense thicket; in some uses it can also refer to managing such growth by cutting or trimming.
