Consequentialist

/ˌkɒn.sɪˈkwen.ʃəl.ɪst/

Origin & History

From consequentialism (19th–20th century term in moral philosophy) + -ist, ultimately built on Latin consequentia (“a following, result”) from consequī (“to follow”).

Definition

A consequentialist holds that an action is morally right if it leads to the best overall outcomes (such as maximizing well-being or minimizing harm), and morally wrong if it produces worse consequences.
