Origin & History
From Middle English clerestorie, from an Anglo-French form; popularly interpreted as cler(e) + story, but historically related to Old French *clere* (“clear, bright”) and *estorie/estoree* (“upper level”).
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी clerestorie से; एंग्लो-फ़्रेंच रूप से। इसे अक्सर cler(e) + story (कहानी/मंज़िल) के रूप में समझा जाता है, पर ऐतिहासिक रूप से यह पुरानी फ़्रेंच clere (“स्वच्छ/उज्ज्वल”) और estorie/estoree (“ऊपरी स्तर/मंज़िल”) से संबद्ध माना जाता है।
Definition
A clerestory is the upper part of a wall in a tall building—especially a church nave—pierced by windows set above the aisle roofs, used to admit daylight and sometimes aid ventilation.
क्लेरेस्टोरी किसी ऊँची इमारत—विशेषकर चर्च के नावे—की दीवार का ऊपरी हिस्सा होता है, जिसमें गलियारों/ऐल्स की छतों से ऊपर खिड़कियाँ बनी होती हैं; इनका उद्देश्य भीतर प्राकृतिक प्रकाश (और कभी-कभी वेंटिलेशन) पहुँचाना होता है।
