From the verb check(er) “to mark with a pattern of squares,” ultimately related to Middle English and Old French terms for a chessboard-like pattern; checkering developed as a craft term for cutting a small square grid, especially on wood/metal surfaces.
क्रिया check(er) से, जिसका अर्थ है “चौकोरों/खानों वाले पैटर्न से चिन्हित करना,” और जिसकी जड़ें मध्य अंग्रेज़ी व पुरानी फ़्रांसीसी में शतरंज-तख़्त जैसे पैटर्न के अर्थ से जुड़ी हैं; बाद में यह कारीगरी में लकड़ी/धातु पर सूक्ष्म चौकोर जाली काटने/उकेरने के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Checkering is a pattern of small squares (often raised or recessed) or the technique of cutting/engraving such a grid onto a surface to improve grip or for decoration (commonly on gunstocks, tool handles, and wood/metal).
चेकर्ड (खानेदार) पैटर्न, या किसी सतह पर छोटे-छोटे चौकोरों/जालीदार खानों की कटाई/नक्काशी करके ऐसा पैटर्न बनाने की प्रक्रिया, ताकि पकड़ (ग्रिप) बेहतर हो या सजावट हो (अक्सर बंदूक के स्टॉक, औज़ारों के हत्थे, लकड़ी/धातु पर)।
