From French cajeput, from Malay kaju putih meaning “white wood/tree” (kayu putih), referring to the pale, papery bark.

Definition
Cajeputs are aromatic trees (Melaleuca species) native mainly to Southeast Asia and northern Australia; their leaves are distilled to produce cajeput oil, traditionally used in topical remedies and fragrances.
