Origin & History
From earlier English bug meaning “goblin, frightening thing,” later used for insects and then extended (20th c.) to mean a mechanical/computing defect (“bug”).
अंग्रेज़ी में bug का पुराना अर्थ “भूत/डरावनी चीज़” था; बाद में यह “कीड़ा” के अर्थ में प्रचलित हुआ और 20वीं सदी में अर्थ-विस्तार होकर मशीन/कम्प्यूटिंग की “त्रुटि/दोष (बग)” के लिए भी उपयोग होने लगा।
Definition
“Bugs” most commonly means small insects/pests, but it is also widely used for errors in computer programs (software bugs). In informal speech it can mean a contagious illness (“flu bug”), an obsession (“caught the travel bug”), or a hidden microphone (“a bug in the phone”).
“Bugs” का सबसे सामान्य अर्थ छोटे कीड़े/हानिकारक कीट होता है, लेकिन यह कम्प्यूटर प्रोग्रामों की त्रुटियों (सॉफ्टवेयर बग) के लिए भी बहुत प्रचलित है। बोलचाल में यह संक्रामक बीमारी/कीटाणु (“flu bug”), किसी चीज़ का जुनून (“travel bug”), या छुपा माइक्रोफ़ोन/जासूसी उपकरण (“phone में bug”) भी दर्शा सकता है।
