The name Budapest comes from the 1873 union of the towns Buda, Pest, and Óbuda; the city name is a compound of “Buda” and “Pest.”

Budapest is the capital and largest city of Hungary in Central Europe, created in 1873 by combining the towns of Buda and Óbuda (on the west bank) with Pest (on the east bank) along the Danube River.
