From bridge + head (“end/leading part”), originally meaning the end of a bridge and then the fortified position at that end; recorded in English from the early 20th century in military use.
bridge + head (अर्थ: ‘पुल का सिरा/अंत’); पहले पुल के सिरे के अर्थ में, बाद में उसी सिरे पर/उसके पार बनाए गए क़िलेबंद सैन्य मोर्चे के अर्थ में—सैन्य प्रयोग में 20वीं सदी की शुरुआत से प्रचलित।
Definition
A bridgehead is a military position taken and held on the far side of a river or other barrier, usually around the end of a bridge, so that troops and supplies can cross safely and operations can continue outward from that point.
ब्रिजहेड (पुल-मोर्चा) वह सैन्य स्थिति है जो नदी या किसी अन्य बाधा के पार, प्रायः पुल के दूसरे सिरे के आसपास, कब्ज़े में लेकर सुरक्षित रखी जाती है ताकि सैनिकों व रसद का सुरक्षित पारगमन हो सके और वहाँ से आगे की कार्रवाई/विस्तार किया जा सके।
