यह ‘blackmail’ (black + Scots ‘mail’ अर्थात ‘कर/भाड़ा/उगाही’) से बना है; मूलतः ‘सुरक्षा’ के नाम पर अवैध वसूली/भुगतान के अर्थ में, और ‘blackmailing’ इसका वर्तमान कृदंत/क्रिया-रूप (gerund) है।
Definition
Blackmailing means forcing someone to do something (often give money or favors) by threatening to expose secrets or harm their reputation; in some regional use (Kenya), it can also mean speaking ill of or defaming someone.
ब्लैकमेलिंग का अर्थ है किसी व्यक्ति से पैसे, फायदा या अपनी बात मनवाने के लिए उसके राज़ उजागर करने या उसकी प्रतिष्ठा को नुकसान पहुँचाने की धमकी देना; कुछ क्षेत्रीय प्रयोग (केन्या) में इसका मतलब किसी की बुराई करना/मानहानि करना भी हो सकता है।
