Modern archaeological compound: biface (“two-faced,” i.e., worked on both sides) + flake (a piece struck off stone during knapping).
आधुनिक पुरातात्त्विक संयुक्त शब्द: बाइफेस (अर्थात ‘दो सतहों वाला/दोनों ओर से तराशा हुआ’) + फ्लेक (पत्थर तराशने पर प्रहार से अलग हुआ टुकड़ा)।
Definition
A stone flake removed (detached) from a biface during lithic knapping; it often shows features of bifacial thinning and can be used as a tool or as debitage for analysis.
पत्थर तराशने (लिथिक नैपिंग) के दौरान किसी द्विमुखी औज़ार (बाइफेस) से निकाला/अलग हुआ पत्थर का फ्लेक; इसमें प्रायः द्विमुखी पतलापन (bifacial thinning) के संकेत होते हैं और इसे औज़ार के रूप में या विश्लेषण हेतु अपशिष्ट (debitage) के रूप में पहचाना जाता है।
