From Latin antrorsum/antrorsus ‘toward the front, forward’ (from ante ‘before, in front of’ + versus ‘turned’), plus English adverbial -ly.

Definition
Used mainly in anatomical and zoological description to indicate a structure pointing or oriented toward the front (anterior) end of the body, as opposed to backward.
