From Latin altitudo (“height”), from altus (“high, deep”), via Middle French altitude; plural altitudes is the regular English plural.
यह शब्द लैटिन altitudo (“ऊँचाई”) से आया है, जो altus (“ऊँचा/गहरा”) से बना; मध्य-फ़्रेंच altitude के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी में आया। Altitudes इसका सामान्य अंग्रेज़ी बहुवचन रूप है।
Definition
Altitudes are measurements of height or elevation, most commonly the height of a place above sea level; the word can also mean a vertical distance, the perpendicular height in geometry (e.g., of a triangle), the angular height of a celestial body above the horizon, or figuratively a high level of rank/excellence or elevated spirits.
Altitudes का अर्थ ऊँचाई/उन्नयन का माप है, प्रायः समुद्र तल से किसी स्थान की ऊँचाई; यह ऊर्ध्व (vertical) दूरी, ज्यामिति में लम्ब (जैसे त्रिभुज की ऊँचाई), खगोल में क्षितिज से ऊपर किसी खगोलीय पिंड की कोणीय ऊँचाई, तथा लाक्षणिक रूप से पद/उत्कृष्टता का ऊँचा स्तर या उत्साह की उन्नति भी दर्शा सकता है।
