Origin & History
A modern formation from ally + -ship; ally comes from Old French alier/alié (“to unite, bind”), from Latin alligare (“to bind to”), and -ship is an Old English suffix forming nouns of state/condition; the term gained wide use in social justice contexts in the late 20th–21st centuries.
यह एक आधुनिक गठन है: ally + -ship। Ally शब्द पुरानी फ़्रेंच alier/alié (“एकजुट करना/जोड़ना”) से, और वह लैटिन alligare (“बाँधकर जोड़ना”) से आया है; -ship पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी का प्रत्यय है जो अवस्था/स्थिति के संज्ञा रूप बनाता है। यह शब्द सामाजिक न्याय के संदर्भ में 20वीं शताब्दी के उत्तरार्ध–21वीं शताब्दी में व्यापक रूप से प्रचलित हुआ।
Definition
Allyship is the practice of actively supporting marginalized people by listening, learning, using one’s privilege responsibly, and taking consistent action against discrimination; it is ongoing and accountable rather than a one-time label.
Allyship (सहयोगी-भाव/सहयोगीपन) का अर्थ है हाशिए पर रखे गए लोगों का सक्रिय समर्थन करना—सुनना, सीखना, अपने विशेषाधिकार का जिम्मेदारी से उपयोग करना, और भेदभाव के विरुद्ध लगातार कदम उठाना; यह एक बार का ‘टैग’ नहीं, बल्कि निरंतर और जवाबदेह अभ्यास है।
