Alluded

/əˈluːdɪd/

Origin & History

From Latin alludere (ad- ‘to’ + ludere ‘to play’), later via French alluder; originally ‘to refer playfully,’ then ‘to refer indirectly.’

Definition

Used to say that someone referred to a person, thing, event, or idea in an indirect or subtle way rather than naming it openly.
